8mm help****

ok... i want to work with film and 8mm is cheapist. So how much can i get a camera for? how much is film(inclued processing)? And can it be turned in to digital format(so no loss when editing on computer)? and it has no sound,so what do i do about that(DAT,maybe?) i have seen the pro8 web sight and this has sound, right. Please help it would be vary appreciated..

Super 8 is the boll&*ks is you want to work with film and have no budget, cameras are very cheap, look in all your local second hand stores. I have two and they were both around ?25 which is great. The film to use is Kodachrome 40 as this is the cheapest as the proccessing is free (this is about ?12 for 50ft which is about 2.5 - 3 mins depending on you frame rate). The other films that are on the market do not include proccesssing. Super 8 looks damn good but only when you get the film transfered professionally which costs around ?250 per hour from www.telecine.co.uk. Then you can edit on your pc. The problem with sound is that these cheap camers are not sound sync. Putting sound in you filmwill take a lot of time..but hell it's cheap, you could make a short film for under ?1000 easy. o.k thanks...umm but where is the sound put on to the film or do i need an external device to capture it? and dose telecine put it in a totaly digital format(avi ect...) or vhs. because my capture card loses a lot of quality by compressions. and thanks for any advice.....

The regular 8mm cameras are cheaper than super8, and there are several films available. The reason I like regular8 is I have cameras that let you backwind (for fades) and most regular8 cameras are keywound (no batteries, no waste). Right now, the best reg8 film is FOMA from the Czech republic, but you can also get color stock.
For sound, we use a DAT recorder and synch it into the film after transfer to digital.
If you want to develop your own film, Doran (USA) has a processing tank for 8/super8/16/35 that is fairly cheap.

thanks... but also how much is a D.A.T recorder?. and can i get film completly turned digital(avi...ect). 8mm dose not have 16:9 aspect does it????

16mm = 1: 1.37
35mm Academy = 1: 1.37
Standard 8 = 1: 1.39
Super 8 = 1: 1.35

hello lads, I was debating if I should use super8 for my movie and I think I'm swaying towards using it! I think I might be able to develop the film myself but then I will need to have it transferred to video, but I will think about that later, The other trouble is syncing up sound, but yet again nothing is easy, thanks for the help you guys, i'm now happy I have that piece of knowledge!
